It was another big step for Charlie McAvoy on Monday as he was able to shed the no-contact jersey, skated with his teammates at practice, and will go on the road with them on their two-game trip through Florida.

McAvoy was excited to get back into the flow and clear another hurdle in his recovery from concussion symptoms that showed up after an Oct. 18 loss to the Edmonton Oilers. Now the 20-year-old defenseman wants to focus on sharpening his skills and avoiding any setbacks while returning to the Ba€™s lineup as soon as possible.

a€œIt was a big step forward today and it went really well,a€ said McAvoy, who has a goal and six points in seven games this season. a€œThe days have been adding up and Ia€™ve unfortunately been getting reminded of it. Ita€™s been over a month now. It was time to get in there and just play hockey, play defense and play hard. I was very happy to get out there and play today.

a€œIta€™s really just stringing along a number of days and being confident in my head that I can say a€˜leta€™s goa€™ and I feel like Ia€™m ready to play and go out there. I cana€™t come back in a situation where Ia€™m nervous to get hit. You cana€™t play like that. So I need to be completely prepared to go out there and be a pivotal part of the team while helping us win. I feel like that day is close.a€

McAvoy has missed 19 games and counting and will probably miss at least a couple more with the road swing through Florida and Tampa Bay while he gets back into playing shape. But it certainly sounds like the light is at the end of the tunnel for a second year D-man whoA can be a real difference-maker to this injury-plagued Bruins team.
