Stars forward Valeri Nichushkin could make his season debut against Toronto

Stars forward Valeri Nichushkin could make his season debut as early as Tuesday night against the Maple Leafs, coach Jim Montgomery said after practice Monday morning.

Nichushkin has not played in a game since an exhibition in Colorado on Sept. 26 due to a lower-body injury. He returned to practice last week, but not in time to face Winnipeg on Saturday night. Montgomery said Nichushkin looked good during practice Monday.

"There is a good chance that he plays tomorrow," Montgomery said. "We need to go back and talk about it. It's hard to change lineups when you've played as well as last game. But it's something we have to think about and evaluate."

Nichushkin is back with the Stars after spending two seasons in the KHL. During the preseason, he was playing on the right wing of the second line that also consisted of Mattias Janmark and Jason Spezza. But Montgomery said Nichushkin could start lower in the lineup on the fourth line because the top three lines have clicked together through two games.

Janmark, Spezza and Blake Comeau have been on the second line. Devin Shore, Radek Faksa and Tyler Pitlick have been on the third one.
