Tarasenko skates with Blues for first time since shoulder surgery

Vladimir Tarasenko skated with the St. Louis Blues on Monday for the first time since he had shoulder surgery in April and is on track to return for training camp in September.

The 26-year-old forward was injured April 7 in a collision with Colorado Avalanche forward Gabriel LandeskogA midway through the first period of a 5-2 loss in the final regular-season game for each team. He had surgery four days later.

"I need to talk about it with the doctors more, but I'm cleared to skate with the group, but only with some contact right now," Tarasenko told the Blues website. "But I can shoot. I feel great and I feel stronger. I'm ready for the season."

Tarasenko had 33 goals in 80 games last season, the fourth straight season he led St. Louis in goals. His 66 points were second on the Blues (Brayden Schenn, 70).

"I just follow the instructions, just what the doctors say," Tarasenko said. "This last 3 1/2 months was pretty tough, both mentally and physically, too. Lots of rehab stuff, and it was the longest break ever between seasons (for me). But you just listen to the doctors and therapist and what they tell you and just follow the plan."

The Blues were eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention with the loss to the Avalanche, who earned the second wild card from the Western Conference by one point over St. Louis (95-94). It was the first time in Tarasenko's six NHL seasons that the Blues did not make the playoffs.
