Defenseman Matt Greene has one year left on his deal with the Los Angeles Kings.

Were he to stay in the system for the upcoming 2017-18 season, he would cost the club $2.5 million against the cap and in real salary, which stands as a problem for the cap-strapped Pacific Division club.

As a result, expect him to be bought out, per LA Kings insider Jon Rosen

The club has reportedly activated Greene with the intent to buy him out. Per Rosen, the defenseman " who skated out in just 26 regular season games this past year " is healthy, rendering him eligible for a buyout.

A native of Grand Ledge, Mich., Greene was drafted 44th overall in 2002 by the Edmonton Oilers.
